Cleanse the items
I generally recommend cleansing items that are going to be used as anchors. The exception would be bringing an anchor into your space from that location with the intent of keeping it there. We want to remove as many “hostile” or “unnatural” energies from the material and places the anchor has been in the past. If this is a local rock getting returned to the same location, that isn't really an issue. If it's a blood crystal from Africa mined with forced labor (and you may not know that), you may want to cleanse it to be safe.
I prefer the smoke method for items that can't get wet. Rocks and similar things that can get wet will usually get put under a faucet to simulate the running water of a creek or river.
If I don't want to do either of those things, I still have a few options available to me. I can flood the item with neutral energies or my own and specifically direct it to “overwrite” the existing energies or see them getting pushed out. If I push them out, I move the object away from them and disperse them.
The second method, you probably guessed it, is to ask an entity to do this for you. There are some specific benefits to this, if you're on good terms with an entity that will keep an eye on it for you. They can tune it to stand out less in the environment. Why would that matter? Because our objects, anchors, aren't invisible. Sensitive people will pick up on them. Sure, we could get fancy and have it lay dormant until called upon, but the more different the anchor feels to the environment, the greater the likelihood it may get discovered.
Is this really an issue? Well, it may be. I read a book by a “cabal” that advocates for people pretending to be the Conquering Warlord of various graveyards that they link together using simple anchoring methods. This is a path of subjugation of all of the spirits in those graveyards, which isn't going to go down with me. I've posted about doing this for years and am still here. I will do it again. It's part of the service I provide to honor those that have taught and looked out for me, such as Hecate and Hel (among others).
I actively seek out items like this when I visit graveyards or places of death, like accident prone highways, places of recent mass death, etc… I've found a few links that felt like this subjugation method was being employed and destroyed the links. I take my psychopomp assisting roles seriously. I only take issue with anchors that subjugate the “innocent” dead. There are some troublesome spirits that need to be kept away. I leave those sorts of things alone. Let's get back on topic.
If asking an entity to do this for you, I would ask for both the cleansing and the addition of a sort of camouflaging energies to help keep it less noticeable. They may not feel it is necessary and this shouldn't be taken as a slight or a rejection. It may be unnecessary because they will relink it for you. If they agree with what you're doing and why, they can be quite helpful like that. A similar thing could be achieved with a servitor, with some sort of programming to reestablish the link after X number of hours (so the meddlesome person is gone). I have used this approach to keep vampiric links established against horrendous people. The servitor reestablishes the link and those energies become offerings to darker spirits - essentially preying on predators.
The ask of the entity doesn't have to be poetic prose with every i dotted and t crossed. I would keep it simple, keep it heartfelt and sincere, and provide an offering for their help with the linking AND for the work. Why twice? There's no question that you value their work and appreciate what they're doing for you. This may seem like overkill. Since these offerings aren't typically expensive, maybe a cup of tea and a piece of fruit, it's better to be generous than wish you had been.
Decide on the linking mechanism
We've touched on these mechanisms above and I want to hit them again here with some additional information to help with the decision. While they may seem like variations on a theme, there can be some subtleties that may tip the balance for some anchoring scenarios.
The primary recommendation for linking the anchors in this tome is with the linking symbol, the ritual for this is a little bit after this section called “Charging An Anchor Object Using the Anchor Symbol”. I know this isn't everyone's thing, so we will discuss other ways of doing it.
You already knew I was going to suggest using an entity. For safety's sake, I would ask that you use an entity you're comfortable with OR having them vet another spirit doing it. It's important to understand that you should first ask them if you should have those types of energies around you to begin with.
Some people react to different energies differently or there may already be an imbalance that could be exacerbated. I don't recommend leaving these anchors “on” all the time, so this shouldn't be an issue. They would need a renewable power source for that to happen, which is doable, but not recommended until you know the effects. Personally, I normally only call on these powers when needed or when I feel I should “commune” with them for renewal, grounding, burning out maladies or unhelpful attachments, etc…
There is the servitor approach, too. You could create a servitor whose job it is to access and link to different energy types you're interested in. If you can demonstrate this for the servitor to learn first-hand, then you'll need to either provide some instructions and eventually help it learn or you can ask an entity to teach it this skill for you. You could also teach it to convert one to another, but this would be better taught by an entity (like Zagan, Haagenti, Berith, or similar). To be honest, I don't think this is the greatest idea, but it is an option. VERY useful for converting more baneful or negative energies that hit suddenly, with your servitor helping out without having to be asked. I would want to learn to neutralize those energize and then convert them, but this is getting out of scope for this area.
Link the items
Finally, the linking! How this happens will depend on your chosen method. If you're creating it via the recommended symbols for this grimoire, then the instructions are pretty straight forward. The linking is built into the charging! Cake.
The “how” is this - the symbol acts as the linking agent, because it connects the location holding the anchoring agent I've left there. The symbol acts as the link that then feeds the item. Doesn't get much simpler than that. I've talked about anchoring portals, spirits, etc. in the past, so let’s talk about that next for those wanting to do it on their own.
Linking is and isn't a hard task. If you remove an object from a ‘haunted’ house, you may end up with some nasty energies or a nasty entity as a result. Or both. Why? Because objects, like people, have attachments over time to the location and people they are with. This then results in links to that place. The larger the number of them (small minor ones over time), the larger the emotional charge towards a place, and so on, the greater the overall link. Similar to a sacred grove or a ritual space that's seen heavy, repeated use, the imprints are there and these result in energetic links.
Yes, this is a simplification, but it does stand. This isn't meant to be an advanced collegiate course in energy work, linkages, and the nuances of substantial anchoring against competent magicians or advanced spirits. Most of the explanations out there have some truth and none have all. It can be a really complex topic, but doesn't have to be to get started with using links and creating our own intentionally.
For the purposes of this grimoire, we will keep it at the beginner -> intermediate range. It's a skill that takes practice and using these practices in a variety of ways can result in skills to then lead to additional use cases the practicing magician will discover. Vague and intentionally so. I've spoken of the shadow gate that is still here and ready for use after almost 4 years of not touching it. I've also spoken of energetic links to graveyards that feed into a local spot set aside for those energies. The uses will come when one develops/practices the skills. Now, let's move one to something productive.
You have several choices if you want to do this on your own for those places whose energies you want to accumulate. The “Charging Items with a Place's Energies“ portion can also act as linking agents. Sometimes we don't want this to happen that way and want to link it to fill it instead. What's the difference?
Intent goes a long way here. It isn't “everything” in this case. You need to put more than “intent” into something to link it significantly in a shorter time span. Burying is a good way of doing this over time without introducing opened, unconstrained energy sources into your environment. We've spoken about having entities do it already.
One of my earlier methods for doing this is as follows:
I will place the object onto the ground or whatever the source is I want to link to. This is typically something I can hold or touch.
I then touch the ground or water or similar that I want to link the object to.
I act as the linking agent and visualize the energy bond running from the item to the ground and back to the item. I will do this until I feel them start to feel similar where my hands are touching. The link has happened.
Repeat the last part until the bond is strong enough that you can touch the item, think of the space, and feel the link vibrate. This is also useful for strengthening the link and renewing it.
There you go. Most of the steps, all wrapped into one easy practice, nestled into a space some may not read. Requires physical access or an energetic one, say, like a symbol acting as an anchor link, but you likely get the process now at a better level than it all being spread out. Kindly keep reading.
