I'm interested in getting more discussion going here in the forum, so I want to try something a little different.

From time to time, I'm going to bring up an event from occult history, give some background, tell you what I think happened, and then open it up for debate. The point isn't for everyone to agree with me. Quite the opposite. I want to hear different interpretations, experiences and ideas, especially when we can look at the same events and come to completely different conclusions.

So let's test this out.

For our first discussion, we're going back to seventeenth-century France and the events at Loudun, better known as the Devils of Loudun.

In 1632, Ursuline nuns in Loudun began displaying what was described as demonic possession—convulsions, strange behavior, sexual manifestations and eventually claims that demons were involved.

The man blamed for it was Urbain Grandier, a Catholic priest who was eventually accused of sorcery, tortured and burned alive in 1634.

And Grandier was definitely no saint.

He had a reputation with women, apparently wasn't particularly concerned about clerical celibacy, was arrogant by several accounts, and had collected enemies along the way. Basically, he was very good at giving people reasons not to like him.

But being an asshole doesn't necessarily make you a sorcerer.

The Nuns and Grandier

One particularly interesting part of the story involves Jeanne des Anges, superior of the Ursuline convent.

Grandier had reportedly been asked to become spiritual director of the convent and declined. Jeanne has also been described in accounts of the affair as being attracted to him and resentful of his rejection.

The position instead went to Jean Mignon, who happened to be one of Grandier's enemies.

Then the possessions began.

During the resulting exorcisms, Grandier was identified as the sorcerer responsible for sending demons into the convent.

Maybe.

Because Grandier had another problem considerably larger than an angry nun.

Cardinal Richelieu

Grandier had also managed to piss off Cardinal Richelieu, which was probably not a great career move in seventeenth-century France.

Richelieu may have worn the red robes of a cardinal, but he was also one of the most powerful political figures in Europe and had the ear of King Louis XIII.

Grandier had opposed royal policies involving Loudun and had become politically troublesome. Eventually, royal commissioner Jean Martin de Laubardemont, connected to Richelieu's government, took control of the investigation that would end with Grandier's conviction.

So by this point we have a promiscuous priest, accusations from a convent, personal enemies, demonic possession, royal politics and Richelieu.

And then somebody produced a contract with demons.

The Pact

An alleged demonic pact was introduced against Grandier, complete with marks attributed to spirits including Lucifer, Beelzebub, Leviathan and Astaroth.

This is where I probably have a slightly different perspective than someone approaching this purely as history.

I believe in demons. I practice demonolatry, and I am pacted myself.

My pact, however, was written by me. I used the appropriate seals of the spirit.

Do I believe spirits can manifest physically? Yes.

Do I believe Astaroth showed up in Loudun, grabbed a pen and said, "Where do I sign?"

I'm considerably less convinced haha.

That doesn't mean the pact itself isn't fascinating occult history. It absolutely is. But somebody drawing a mark and saying "Astaroth signed this" doesn't establish who actually put that mark on the paper.

My Theory

I don't think Grandier caused the possessions.

I'm not particularly convinced the nuns were possessed in the first place.

And that isn't because I don't believe possession is possible. I've practiced for years and believe spirits are quite real. I've simply never personally witnessed anything resembling these spectacular historical possession cases.

I think there may have been something considerably more human happening at Loudun.

Sex, attraction, rejection, jealousy, religious repression, fear of scandal—perhaps even fear of a pregnancy or of sexual activity being discovered. I obviously can't prove that, and I'm not presenting it as historical fact. It's my theory.

But put yourself in a seventeenth-century convent for a moment.

If something sexual happened that absolutely could not be admitted, "the Devil made us do it" would be one hell of an excuse.

Then you need somebody to blame.

Grandier already had a reputation. He had enemies in the Church. He had political enemies. Jeanne had reportedly wanted him at the convent. And he had managed to get himself crosswise with the political machinery of Richelieu.

To me, Grandier looks like a very convenient scapegoat.

Maybe something genuinely strange happened in that convent. Maybe Grandier even practiced occultism privately. I don't find the idea of a priest practicing ceremonial magic particularly unbelievable.

Hell, look at the Catholic Mass through an occultist's eyes: altar, candles, incense, vestments, ritual objects, prescribed words and gestures, consecration and ritual transformation. Ceremonial religion and ceremonial magic aren't exactly strangers.

But none of that proves Grandier sent demons into a convent.

I wouldn't have convicted him.

Now It's Your Turn

@Duchess @Citrine @Shadowvox @@uncle-al @Norse900 @Onion @Verdo @Kish @MagisterMikeBee

I'm tagging everyone deliberately because I actually want a debate here. Don't agree with me just to be polite.

Were the nuns genuinely possessed?

Was Grandier a practitioner, a scapegoat, or both?

What do you make of the alleged pact and the supposed demonic signatures?

Was this really an occult event, or did sex, religion and politics create the perfect storm?

And particularly for those of us who already believe possession is possible:

What evidence would you actually need before accepting that someone was genuinely possessed?

I've given you my theory. Now let's hear yours.

Let’s be honest: while blood undoubtedly carries a striking aesthetic, between pricked fingers, ruined parchment, and the constant risk of feeling like an extra in a low budget horror film, it quickly becomes impractical for routine operations.

I have always thought that physical blood is merely the courier, what we are truly after in operative work is the payload it carries, which is Vitae, the core vital force. If you are ready to step away from bleeding over every minor sigil and instead focus on working with precision upon your own energetic signature, there are several powerful ways to utilize your bodily fluids and breath as highly effective physical vectors.

Blood functions as a recognized carrier because it holds your genetic code, your soul signature, and your vital momentum, therefore, a proper substitute does not need to replicate its physical color, but rather its functional core so It must be a substance that is unmistakably yours and whose deployment represents an intentional sacrifice of your own essence.

That's why I have categorized the most reliable alternatives by their ideal operational use:

- Saliva (The Blood of the Word): Containing your DNA, your breath, and your spoken intent, saliva is the most accessible and natural vehicle for inscribing sigils, consecrating parchment, sealing verbal compacts, and binding spoken incantations.

- Sexual Fluids (The Undiluted Catalyst): Representing the raw engine of creation, sexual fluids carry the most potent, concentrated vital force a practitioner can generate. They remain unmatched for manifestation work, the creation and feeding of servitors, works of fertility, whether literal or metaphorical, and operations requiring intense magnetic draw.

- Tears (Emotional Distillation): Composed of salt, water, and pure emotional discharge, tears carry an immense energetic charge. Tears of sorrow or rage are exceptionally potent for banishings, curses, or rituals of closure, while tears of joy or ecstatic focus act as powerful catalysts for blessings and attraction work. By offering them, you are directly converting emotional equilibrium into ritual fuel.

- Condensed Breath (Pneuma in Physical Form): Breath is life in gaseous form. By exhaling slowly onto a cold, reflective surface, such as a black mirror, an obsidian blade, or a tuned crystal, until vapor condenses into liquid, you collect pure etheric water. This fluid carries your immediate intent and present moment signature, making it ideal for subtle consecrations and charging tools without leaving heavy physical residue.

- Liquid Will (Energetic Saturation): This is the most advanced approach. By taking a neutral physical medium, such as pure spring water, unblessed wine, or oil, and holding it between your hands while channeling intent through intense meditation, focused visualization, or vocal resonance, you can saturate the liquid until it feels dense and active. The underlying physical base is secondary; the fluid becomes a vessel for your projected spiritual energy, trading bodily fluid for a direct sacrifice of time and deep mental concentration.

At the end of the day, the real power never truly resided in the red stain itself, but in the sacrifice it represents and the focused will that infuses the medium. So, I would be very curious to hear how others here approach physical vectors in their daily work, or if you have found specific substitutes that yield cleaner, more consistent results in your own operations.

Hi everyone,

To celebrate joining The Occult Corner and to help myself get back into a steady, hands-on routine after my escape, I’d love to offer some tarot readings to anyone in our little community who might be looking for a bit of insight right now. I’ve always found that the best way to sharpen one's tools is through active practice, and since I’m working on rebuilding my daily momentum, opening up a few slots here felt like a great way to give back and interact with you all directly.

I’d really appreciate it if you could keep things to one specific, well-defined question per person, which allows us to get right to the heart of the matter without getting lost in the noise so, my inbox is open and you're welcome to send me a DM or feel free to write them directly here on this thread if you prefer.

Welcome to The Black Book of Vitriol.

This is not intended to be a formal grimoire, a collection of absolute truths, or a polished account written after everything has already made sense. It is my working record—a place for the things I encounter, attempt, question, learn, and occasionally get completely wrong along the way.

My practice is rooted primarily in ceremonial magick, spirit work, divination, and the grimoires, particularly the Keys of Solomon and the Grand Grimoire. Over time, however, practice has a way of wandering beyond the boundaries of books. What begins as study eventually has to become experience.

That is what I want this Black Book to record.

Workings. Evocations. Tarot. Experiments. Conversations. Observations. Lessons. Successes and failures. Things that make perfect sense at the time and things that may take months or years before I understand what they meant.

I kept a working journal on the previous Occult Corner. That journal ended in 2025 and has been preserved in my personal archives. I considered bringing those entries here, but ultimately decided against it. They belong to another period of my practice and another incarnation of this community.

Perhaps someday I will return to those archives. There is enough material there that I may eventually develop some of it into a grimoire or another more permanent record. But that is a project for another day.

The Black Book of Vitriol begins with The Occult Corner 2.0.

I don't know what will eventually fill these pages—and that's precisely why I want to keep them.

I want this book to give me a reason to practice when I have become distracted, to write when an experience deserves remembering, to question myself when something doesn't fit, and to leave a record that I can return to years from now and see how my practice actually changed.

Some entries may be long. Some may be nothing more than a photograph and a few sentences. Some conclusions will probably change. That's fine. This is a record of practice, not a performance of certainty.

So, with a new Occult Corner comes a new book.

Let's see what gets written in it.

Quaere · Experiere · Iudica.

— Vitriol

Welcome to The Occult Corner.

If you've just joined us, this is the quickest way to understand where you are and where to go next.

FIRST: READ THE COMMUNITY RULES

Please read The Occult Corner — Community Rules before participating.

The Rules explain community conduct, privacy, commercial activity, member standing, moderation, and the use of public and restricted areas of the forum.

After reading them, leave a simple “Read and understood” reply in the Rules topic.

INTRODUCE YOURSELF

When you're ready, visit Introductions — Introduce Yourself to The Occult Corner.

You do not need to use your real name or disclose personal information. Pseudonyms and magical names are welcome.

Tell the community as much or as little as you wish about your interests, practice, experience, or what brought you here.

FIND YOUR WAY AROUND

THE OCCULT CORNER
Announcements, community information, rules, introductions, and important updates.

OCCULT PRACTICE
The practical side of the forum: general occult practice, tutorials, divination, healing, wealth magick, and related subjects.

PUBLIC PRAISING OF THE SPIRITS
A place to publicly offer thanks, praise, and acknowledgment to spirits.

THE SANCTUM
Journals, personal practice, experiences, observations, reflections, and the ongoing record of your occult path.

THE ATRIUM
Our gathering place for conversation, social discussion, and getting to know other members beyond occult practice.

You may also notice that some areas of The Occult Corner are not immediately available to every member. These are trust-based or administrative spaces and become relevant when appropriate.

MEMBER STANDING

New members ordinarily begin as Initiates.

The ordinary community progression is:

Initiate → Practitioner → Adept

These are community standings, not claims of occult rank, spiritual attainment, magical ability, or superiority.

Advancement reflects participation, conduct, and trust.

Adept is the highest ordinary community standing and includes access to the private Inner Chamber. Approximately 90 days of genuine, constructive participation is our normal guideline for Adept consideration, but advancement is never automatic.

Returning trusted members of the previous Occult Corner may be recognized directly as Adepts because their history with the community is already known.

Wardens are different. Warden is an appointed moderation office, not another level in the member progression.

AND THEN?

Explore.

Ask questions. Answer questions when you have something useful to contribute. Start a journal. Discuss a book or grimoire. Share an experience. Participate in a divination discussion. Thank a spirit. Challenge an interpretation intelligently. Or simply spend some time reading.

You do not need to prove that you are an occultist to belong here.

What matters is genuine participation and respect for the community.

Welcome to The Occult Corner.

— Vitriol

Pseudonyms, magical names, and forum names are perfectly welcome.

Tell us as much or as little as you are comfortable sharing. You might mention:

• What brought you to The Occult Corner
• Your areas of occult interest
• Traditions, systems, or practices you study or work with
• Books, grimoires, divination systems, spirits, or subjects that interest you
• Whether you are completely new to occult practice or have been practicing for years

There is no required level of experience.

Beginners are welcome. The genuinely curious are welcome.

The purpose of an introduction is simply to help turn a username into a member of the community.

Please remember that all introductions remain subject to the Community Rules, and avoid posting personal information you would not want publicly available on the internet.

I'll begin.

I'm Vitriol, founder of The Occult Corner.

My own practice is primarily rooted in ceremonial magick, grimoires, spirit work, divination, and the Left-Hand Path. Much of my work has involved the Keys of Solomon, the Grand Grimoire, evocation, petitions, protection, healing-oriented workings, and tarot.

I originally became involved with the community that preceded the present Occult Corner many years ago. TOC 2.0 is the continuation and rebuilding of that community: preserving what was valuable while creating something capable of growing into its own institution.

I look forward to seeing both familiar names and new ones here.

Welcome to The Occult Corner.

— Vitriol
